This is a truly beautiful area to be in. The beach was clean and large with a great view of the Chicago skyline. We stayed at the campground also and it was perfectly peaceful. The spaces were roomy and large with lots of mature trees. The grounds were clean. I can't wait to go back. And it's only a little over an hour away from my house- great for a weekend escape!
Great beach and hike trails. If you are planning to visit make it a full day trip, hiking trails in the morning, lunch in the picnic spots and beach in the afternoon will be great. There's a zoo nearby but it will reopen for summer, currently closed.
Very nice place to go. The views from the dunes are beautiful, and the nature center is also very well put together. The three dune challenge is fun to participate in, and an excellent way to see the best parts of the park (just make sure you are fit enough for the challenge). Although the dunes area is beautiful, don't neglect the other areas of the park. There is a wetland area that is worth checking out.
Of course it was raining. The most expensive spot on our trip. $12. To get in the gate. $26. For one night. Didn't like our spot. Right next to the main road. Fire pit was 10' from this road. Was here before and had a great spot. A nice park with access to Lake Michigan though.
Great place to spend time with nature or have a picnic with your family. The dunes are beautiful and on some days you can see Chicago perfectly.
